Data Analytics Meetings celebrates 5 years

The year 2023 brings the first minor anniversary of DAM since its establishment. It was exactly in June 2018, when the first discussions took place. Finally, in September 2018, the first seminar on the topic of “New Age of Artificial Intelligence” was held and led by Marián Dvorský.

After a successful first seminar, DAM meetings were held almost every month or even twice a month. In addition to seminars, visitors could also participate in various discussions, workshops and reading clubs. Already in the early days, DAM became part of MLMU (Machine Learning Meetup). MLMU encourages people to educate themselves not only about machine learning, but also about other in-demand topics today. Together with the city of Košice, MLMU supports seminars in 4 cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The almost all-day events called Data Day, which included several workshops and lectures, were also a great success. The participants were also high school students, which got a better insight into the world of technology.

All these DAM activities were very interesting and eye-catching thanks to the topics focused on data analysis and artificial intelligence. And so was the first questions regarding the establishment of a new study programme. Since it became more and more obvious over the time, that the demand for data analysts is still growing, an intensive work began on the “Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence” study programme, ADUI. This new study programme welcomed its first students in 2020/2021.

Due to COVID-19, most of DAM’s events have been moved online for a while. Well, it didn’t last that long, and already in September 2021, the first lecture was held at the Faculty of Science, UPJŠ. Since then, DAM events have been diluted and today they are held approximately 4 times per school year. Over the past 5 years, DAM has built several collaborations with companies such as VSL Software, VISSIM Company, Matsuko and EIT Digital Inno-Change. Also thanks to these collaborations, today’s visitors can thrive from the experience of speakers who are from various companies and corners of Slovakia.
