The conference traditionally focuses on the recent results and developments in\u00a0<i>fundamental research<\/i>\u00a0inspired by the challenges in computer science and related fields to design the\u00a0<i>innovative software systems<\/i> of our time. SOFSEM has a long history of facilitating the scientific interchange among researchers in all stages of their career. The series of SOFSEM conferences was interrupted in 2022 due to the pandemic, but SOFSEM 2023 will be held again, in scenic Nov\u00fd Smokovec in the Tatra Mountains (Slovakia).<\/p>\n<p>The renewed scope and format of SOFSEM 2023 is focused entirely on the original research and challenges in<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Foundations of Computer Science<br \/>\n<\/i><strong>algorithms, AI-based methods, computational complexity, formal models<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This includes all recognized core areas of <em>foundational computer science<\/em> and their interface with applied domains, especially <em>artificial intelligence<\/em> and <em>data science<\/em>.<br \/>\nSOFSEM 2023 will consist of invited talks by prominent researchers, contributed talks selected from the submitted papers, and several other activities aimed at overviews and introductions to trends and developments. The program is organized in plenary talks and parallel sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program chair: <\/strong><br \/>\nLeszek G\u0105sieniec, University of Liverpool, UK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Invited speakers:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Slawomir Lasota, Uniwersytet Warszawski, Poland<br \/>\nGerth Brodal, Aarhus University, Denmark<br \/>\nV\u011bra K\u016frkov\u00e1, Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organizing chair: <\/strong><br \/>\nPeter Gursk\u00fd, Pavol Jozef \u0160af\u00e1rik University in Ko\u0161ice, Slovakia<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/book\/10.1007\/978-3-031-23101-8\">proceedings of SOFSEM 2023 are published<\/a> in the subseries ARCoSS (<i>Advanced Research in Computing and Software Science<\/i>) of the\u00a0<i>Lecture Notes in Computer Science<\/i>\u00a0(LNCS) of Springer (see also previous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/book\/10.1007\/978-3-030-67731-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOFSEM volume<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Selected papers will be invited to the special issue of Springer<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><strong>Journal of Computer and System Sciences<\/strong> (JCSS) devoted to SOFSEM 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The first SOFSEM was organized in 1974, the list of previous SOFSEMs is available\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/ics.science.upjs.sk\/sofsem2023\/about\/previous-sofsem-editions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sofsem 2023 is organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/sais.science.upjs.sk\/home\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Slovak Society for AI<\/a>, Letn\u00e1 9, Ko\u0161ice, Slovakia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOFSEM is the annual winter conference devoted to\u00a0the theory and practice of computer science.
